ACADEMICS
Devi Academy Sr. Sec. School kept up the tradition of producing 100% Pass Results in the AISSE (X) and AISSCE (XII) 2009 conducted in March 2009. Master V. Sandeep is the School Topper in Std. X, securing 476 marks on 500 and
V. Vidhya is the School Topper in Std. XII scoring 444 marks on 500. The highlight of the results were E. Rahul of Std. X scoring a Centum in Maths while S. Devi secured a Centum in Social Science. Both of them will receive Merit Certificates from CBSE for their performance. On the whole the scores of the both Std. X and XII were good with many A1 grades in all the subjects.

• This is the third successful year with NIIT @ School Programme. The NIIT awarded grade certificates to all the students. NIIT also trained subject teachers to use multimedia subject software.
• In March 2009, students of Std. III to V took the ASSET Scholastic aptitude examination in English, Science and Maths conducted by Educational Initiatives. 24 students from Class III got distinction in English and a class IV student secured a distinction in Science.
• Students have also been taking Maths Olympiad conducted by AMTI, Talent Exams conducted by TIME. Quiz conducted by National Geographic Channel. Students of classes VI to X took Geography Talent Test conducted by Association of Geography Teachers of India.
• A Talent Test for classes VIII to XII was conducted by AIMS Education.
• A Physics Enrichment Programme was held for Std. XII students.
  Ms. P. N. Sundari, HOD, Physics Department was the resource person and she gave orientation lecture to the students and also gave examination tips to students.
• To make a difference in the lives of students, ‘Subject Plus 2008’ Programme was launched for Senior students. This was co-ordinated by Alma Mater, a Training and Consultancy body.
• The Hindu – NIE Programme is going on in full swing for the fourth year for classes VII to IX.
• The Times of INDIA – NIE Programme was launched this year for Std. VI students. A compulsory reading of newspaper has been introduced. TOI is also holding life skills programmes for these students.
• ‘Life Skills Training’ – a Six Day Workshop for Std. X & XII students was launched on 08.08.2009. The resource person for this programme is
  Ms. Srividya Sudarshan and her team from “Transcend”.
• Financial Literacy Programme has been introduced for Std. IX & XI students. This programme is co-ordinated by The Madras Stock Exchange Limited in association with the National Institute of Capital markets. This programme consists of 8 interactive sessions that focus on a real life money skills where students learn through simple activities and exercises on Savings, Budgeting, Investment, etc.

EXTRA CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

We each bring something unique to the world; therefore we each have something to offer others. That something unique in us has to be tapped and shaped. So to hone this, Devi Academy offers a lot of opportunities in the form of Club activities like Projects, Seminars, Skits, Quiz, Debates, Essay Writing, Powerpoint Presentation, etc. We have intra school competitions and also our students have been taking part in Inter School Competitions. I am proud to say that students have always brought laurels to our school. To mention a few of their achievement at Inter School level :

• I Prize in Music by our Junior Choir, in Choir Competition conducted by Pon Vidyashram.
• Rolling Shield in Vivekananda Jayanthi Competition conducted by Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Perambur for bagging 10 first prizes and
  10 second prizes.
• In ‘Horlicks Whiz Kid 2009’ Programme, S. Subashree of VII ‘C’ won a
  II Place in English Story Writing. T. Vignesh of VIII ‘C’ won II Place in
  “30 sec. to fame”. Team comprising of S. Subramanian, R. Lalith Krishna and Asha Srikanth of Std. XII won III Place in Dumb Charades and a team from Std. XII won III Place in Creative Play.
• In Kola Spectra 2009, an Inter School culturals by Kola Saraswathy Vaishnav Senior Secondary School, Junior Choir won a prize in ‘Rustic Rhythm’ and C. H. Supriya and Balaguru won III Place in Noddy Puzzle.
• In Jainothsav 2009, culturals of B. S. Mootha Senior Secondary School, our Choir Team won I Prize.
• In ‘Manjusha’, Culturals of LM Dadha School, a I Prize in Mehendi Designing by Mega Chithora and M. Manasi of VIII ‘A’, J. Ashwin of X ‘A’ – II Prize in Music, C. Nivetha of X ‘ B’ – II Prize in Essay Writing and a III Prize in Rangoli by V. Sidhi Marjana and B. Shruthi were won.
• A II Prize was won by S. Anurag and P. V. Nivesh of Std. XII in Hindu Cricket League conducted by Hindu Senior Secondary School, Indra Nagar.
• S. Sruthi of VIII ‘C’ won II Prize in Drawing competition conducted by Kola Perumal School in connection with Janmashtami Celebrations.
• Acoustical Society of America in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Science & Technology Centre conducted a Project Competition on Acoustics for students of Tamil Nadu. Six of our projects submitted were short listed.
  V. Vasanthosh of IX ‘A’ and S. Dixitha of Std. XI were awarded a Cash Prize of Rs.1,000/- each for bagging 4th and 5th place respectively.
